2021 has arrived and millions of people are thinking about New Year’s resolutions. What are the 4 best habits to practice each week and perhaps each day in 2021? I’ll tell you about them and encourage you to build them into your weekly schedule.
What’s your WHY???
“When you figure out what your WHY is, you’ll find a HOW!“
1. First of all, you’ve got to figure out your WHY. Why do you want to make changes in your life? What will YOU gain by making the changes? Is there a specific goal you have in mind? What will achieving that goal do for you? Want to know why this is so important? Because, in the first sentence, I said that millions of people are ‘thinking’ about New Years resolutions. Here’s the bad news about that statement. Only 10% will actually write goals and make changes in their life, because they don’t have a WHY. Others are just plain lazy, unmotivated and wasting time.
Only 10% of people write their goals and add a plan & completion date
“If you’re motivated nothing can stop you, but…..
If you aren’t motivated, nobody can help you!”
Your WHY must be powerful enough to encourage you to take action and do things that will help you accomplish your goals. Let’s face it, most people are inherently lazy. I’m not criticizing anyone, this is just a fact from some of the most profound research leaders in the world. Are you lazy? I don’t know what your answer is. But, if you’ve been lazy and you are ready to do something about it, then this blog will help you.
“You won’t always be ‘in the mood’ and that’s why you must always be disciplined to do what you need to do.”
Now that you have a WHY….
Countdown 5-4-3-2-1 Mel Robbins Tip
2. Use this tip from Mel Robbins to get going when you feel lethargic.
5-4-3-2-1! BAM!
If you want to jumpstart your new habits program, but feel lethargic like you did in 2020, use the Mel Robbins tip on YouTube. Countdown like they do before a rocket takes off for space. 5-4-3-2-1 then GO!
So now that you have written your WHY, let’s talk about how to get more done in 2021. Create the steps you’ll need to accomplish your goal. How much do you have to do and by when? When people tell me that “someday” they’ll be rich or more confident or in shape, I ask by when.
Specific Completion Dates
3. You MUST have a game plan and a completion date to reach new goals. Someday is NOT a specific day in any calendar I’ve ever seen on the planet. You’ve got to put an accomplishment date for your goal. Next, you need to schedule what you will do each day to reach your goals. When a date is in your calendar, you are 10x more likely to get it done. One useful tip I use daily, is setting reminders on my calendar. That little ‘ding’ at a specific time is a call to action and your reminder bell to stay focused and get your work done.
Review your goals twice a day
4. Review your goals in the morning while you brush your teeth or have breakfast, and at night just before bed. That should be enough fuel to get you started. To keep going, we recommend you look at your goals and visualize what it will feel like to reach them. Yes, I’ve written this before and remind people constantly. You want this important goal to be “top of mind” every day. When you visualize reaching it, the law of attraction will make things happen to bring you closer. How? I wish I could tell you. I just know from experience that when you ask the Universe for exactly what you want, it’s as if the world conspires to help you succeed.
